Mary Karananos is a Sydney based contemporary artist, photographer and creative director in the media advertising industry with 14+ years experience working on some of the world’s biggest brands.
Illustration and art has been a huge part of Mary’s world since childhood, inspired by her artist mother.
Her artworks tell stories of the imagination and are inspired by the human form, antiquity, mythology and nature. Her one of a kind works capture more with less; perfection in imperfection; escapism through the beauty of shape and form.

Mary’s passion for photography stemmed from observing her great uncle in the South of France who was an avid photographer. She was six at the time and was fascinating observing him photographing lemons and shadows of glassware in the afternoon light. As a young uni student studying visual communication, Mary decided to major in photography and it was then that her love affair with the medium took off. She became obsessed with freezing and framing moments in time with her camera - the more seemingly ordinary the more extraordinary.
Mary’s photographic works document everyday life and her travels; often exploring the contrasting beauty between cities and seas, and the magic that occurs when the two meet.
