Mary Karananos is a Sydney-based contemporary artist, photographer, and Creative Director. With over 14 years in the media industry, she blends creative vision with strategic insight—leading award-winning campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands.
Art and illustration have been central to Mary’s life from an early age, nurtured by the influence of her artist mother. Her work draws on the human form, mythology, antiquity, and the natural world to tell imaginative, emotionally resonant stories. Each piece is one of a kind—capturing more with less, finding perfection in imperfection, and offering a sense of escapism through the beauty of shape and form.

Mary’s passion for photography was sparked at the age of six, watching her great uncle—an avid photographer—capture the soft afternoon light on lemons and glassware in the South of France. Years later, while studying visual communication at university, she chose to major in photography, marking the beginning of a deep and enduring love for the medium. She became captivated by the power of the lens to freeze fleeting moments—finding the extraordinary in the everyday.
Her photographic work documents both daily life and her travels, often exploring the contrast and harmony between cityscapes and coastlines, and the quiet beauty that emerges where the two converge.
